Texas Community Project helps citizens work for the betterment of their communities by building coalitions and campaigns. TCP works for better use of taxpayer dollars by fostering sensible planning and coordination between local governments. TCP also researches and documents problems and involves the community in solving them.

Texas Community Project empowers people to push for responsive government, works to expand citizens' right to participate in important decisions, and helps hold officeholders accountable by educating voters about officials' performance records.

About The Canvass

TCP’s door-to-door canvass is the foundation of our organization. This growing group of enthusiastic activists works full time to bring our campaigns to the neighborhoods. The canvass organizes by voter precinct and congressional district to ensure that our elected officials and other policy makers hear the voices and concerns of their constituents. TCP will visit roughly 55,000 households this year and has 20,000 members in Central Texas. We depend on community support to win our campaigns.  We plan to expand our canvass activities to Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio in the near future.

The Lobby

Texas Community Project lobbies public officials at all levels of government to bring home the message that environmental protection and sustainable communities go hand-in-hand with a sound economy. We work to see that public officials are accountable to the people rather than to corporations and big campaign contributors by showing them that the people are aware of the issues and politicians' performance records.

Elections

During election time, our steering committee, Texas Vote Environment, carefully researches the positions and track records of candidates and makes formal endorsements in key races. The committee may also take a stand on bond elections and other referenda. Texas Community Project helps carry these recommendations to our members and the general public through phone banks, email alerts and other method.

TCP is a project of Clean Water Action, a  citizens’ organization working for clean, safe and affordable water, prevention of health-threatening pollution, creation of environmentally safe jobs and businesses, and empowerment of people to make democracy work.
